LOCAL HERO

By popular demand we will be screening Local Hero this Tuesday 28th.

Up-and-coming Houston oil executive “Mac” MacIntyre (Peter Riegert) gets more than he bargained for when a seemingly simple business trip to Scotland changes his outlook on life. Sent by his colorful boss (Burt Lancaster) to the small village of Ferness, Mac is looking to quickly buy out the townspeople so his company can build a new refinery. But after a taste of country life Mac begins to question whether he is on the right side of this transaction.

Most of the scenes of the Ferness village were filmed in Pennan, Aberdeenshire where the iconic phone box can still be found.  The beach scenes were mostly filmed at Morar and Arisaig on the west coast.

FROM SCOTLAND WITH LOVE

We had a really lovely night screening From Scotland With Love with a really packed hall and lots of great people.  Food before hand was provided by Amy Jake and Jack and we thank you all!  Delicious stew and curry!

We were really lucky to be joined by Virginia Heath (Director) and Grant Keir (Producer) who watched the film with us and held a Q&A afterwards.  It was great to get an insight into the processes of making such an unusual film.

Also a big thank you has to go to Glenelg Primary School – Ruth, Daniel and Torie especially – who organised a raffle and a brilliant exhibition of old objects and photographs from the village and surrounding areas.

I think we speak for everyone involved in saying how much we enjoyed watching the film, so beautiful to see such diverse and moving archive footage with a soundtrack that brought a tear to many an eye.

Thanks again everyone!
